4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has been attending PS84 since 2nd grade and is going to graduate next year. When she arrived she didn't speak English. PS84 has fulfilled all my expectations and more. Teachers are committed, creative and respectful of students. Their ESL programme is just great, they take care of every kid ensuring no one is left behind. My daughter was able to properly speak, write and read English in no time, she is getting high grades and is fully integrated in her community. I appreciate the teachers effort to develop not only strong academic results but also social- emotional skills. Mr. Armano is an amazing principal, very accessible and willing to listen to the community to make the most of the school despite resource scarcity. And parents I encountered over the years are nice people, most of they engaged with the school which creates a family feeling. PS84 has build a sense of belonging not only in my child but in myself. I'm sad we have to left the school next year and hope to find something similar somewhere else.Parent Review11mo ago - Is 141 The Steinway

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBeing in this school has genuinely been one of the most torturing things ever. Everything starts off good in sixth grade, but once you get to seventh, it all goes downhill. My seventh grade teachers were the absolute worse, not to mention the constant reminders of “You’re not in sixth grade anymore, you’re growing up.” The Spanish teacher was honestly so rude, and forced everyone to participate in her class, along with keeping false promises. And the fact that we only learn Spanish for one year is dumb, it’s only because it’s the minimum requirement, which shows the lengths that this school could but doesn’t go to. Not to mention, that many of the teachers mention that because you’re in an “honors” class that you have to be a role model. I kept constantly getting reminded of it, everytime that the class would misbehave. “I’ve never seen an honors class behave this way.” - Every teacher I’ve had every single year. Additionally, there would also be so many “threats” that the teachers would make, such as losing your rights to have prom, or to go outside for “recess”. The environment is also very toxic, not even in a specific grade, all year round. I’ve seen sixth graders with worse language and actions than eight graders. Every year I’ve been at this school, I just got more and more excited to leave. I would not wish this experience at this school even upon my worst enemy.Student Review1y ago - William Cullen Bryant High School
