2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDr. Buon is probably the best administrator in this district. Balmville School is a great school. The school was given special ed classes to save money and the issues come from not having staff to service the kids the district moved in there. Our child went K-5 there. If you know what education is and care about the learning part, this is the school for you. It is not the school for special ed, but this is a special ed problem across the district.Parent Review2y ago - Newburgh Free Academy Main Campus

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAbsolute disaster of a school. Picture a place that smells so bad of weed and vape that it makes you sick. Hallways so crowded that you cant move or breathe. While trying to get through these hallways, students are blasting disgusting music on portable speakers. You're pushed and shoved, body slammed daily. Teachers (most of them) couldn't care less about a student doing well. They are just trying to get through the day. It's a horrible, nasty, ugly, soul-sucking place in every way. Nobody is happy, everyone is jaded and just trying to make it. It's depressing and awful. It's how I'd imagine a prison would be. Yelling at every turn, being treated like garbage by security constantly. Don't send your kids here. Move.Other Review3w ago - South Middle School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Average0/10.......WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANY SCHOOL IN THIS DISTRICT!! ESPECIALLY South Middle School!! If your child is not black, hispanic, a mixture of either, they are NEVER heard! These scumbags ACTIVELY work to vilify any child with special needs, children that are bullied on a daily basis and children who are just in general 'different' than the weapon toting demographic. Would NEVER in my life recommend torturing your children by sending them here.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 280 Carter Avenue.

What Locals Say about Newburgh
- Kevin L.
- Resident

"Newburgh is a bit of a melting pot, so beyond the Illuminated Festival (celebrating this being the second city, after NYC, to received electricity and Thomas Edison’s temporary residence here) there’s everything from Peruvian Music festivals to air shows at New York Stewart International to a rowing club on the Hudson River. There’s a great art scene with wonderful galleries and strong community service representation."

"I’ve lived in Newburgh for almost 4 years now and I love it. It is VERY rough around the edges but people won’t bother you unless you bother them. There are several gems in the area if you’re willing to look. Being right on the water is a huge plus. Please spend some time in Newburgh before you listen to negative comments from someone that doesn’t live here ! "

"If it’s not the town of Newburgh. It will not be quiet day or night. It will always have people out side ( hangout ). If you allow your kids to go out side to play. U must watch your children at all times. Unless you have a fenced in yard. Even then you must still keep a eye on your children. The inside of the places are beautiful to a lot of these places. The school is even a great school. One of the best. As in academics. Everything else well you have to have a special taste to live in the city of Newburgh. It’s not for everyone. Only the strong of the strongest can live here, and still make it and still survive. So if that’s not you. Don’t be fooled stay in the Town Of Newburgh or others. Now remember no matter where you live doesn’t define who you are. Who you are as a person is everything. "
