This year (2023) is the last year this school will be running as Gould Elementary School. but in my 7 years of experience as a parent and later a substitute teacher with the school, the past negative reviews are just that, A past review. in those 7 years (including through the pandemic) this school has encouraged both of my children to be the best that they can be in all aspects of their lives. the teachers excelled in teaching these students what is necessary to achieve excellence. My son's 5th grade class will be the last graduating class and there is very little retainment and that is because of the teachers.

The school lunch is bad, and the teachers can be rude. There is one Spanish teacher who invades students personal space and I’m part of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and she did not let me go to work at our school shop, even though she signed a contract willingly. Another thing is how the teachers put their hands on students with no consequences or outcome. Along with the school being unsanitary, dirty, and multiple roaches and bugs around the classrooms and halls. And with the school water fountains either always broken or with flakes of unknown substances in the water, giving some of the students sicknesses or make them throw up. Another thing is how they make us turn in our phones every morning in homeroom, and many students do not like this, one good reason we should keep our phones is because of the danger, and how we can’t contact anyone or any of our loved ones if something happens. Like take a possible shooting as an example, we could lose our lives and not be able to tell any of our loved ones good bye, and we wouldn’t be able to contact help such as the police or 911.

The students run the school. There are no consequences for bad behavior. Students don't have to follow the dress code and dress like they're either going to the club or posing for a mugshot. Girls run around in midriff shirts with their belly rings prominently displayed. It's really disgusting. The principal has no control whatsoever over the students. There is fighting, constant disrespect to teachers, and cellphone usage in class. Students aren't given consequences for cussing out teachers or each other; they skip class; they roam the hallways. They just basically do what they want. NHHS was on lockdown several times this year due to weapons. This school could be restored to its former greatness if the adminstration was stronger and would take control. IEPs and 504 plans are not followed at this school. Graduation rate is high because they just pass everyone along whether or not they actually mastered the content or not.
